The Ateneo Filmmakers' Society Goes Digital for Cineatenista ‘21, Urges Support for Lasiwwai Pupils

Eyeing to cultivate a culture of hope, faith and camaraderie through stories, the Ateneo Filmmakers’ Society (AFS) - the official film club of the Ateneo de Davao University Senior High School will conduct a fund-raising Film Festival, #Cineatenista ’21, on February 25 to 26, at 7pm on the Ateneo Filmmakers Society YouTube channel.

“The objective of our film festival has always been to create a platform for the members to apply their skills in the field of filmmaking. This year’s Cineatenista is different from the past years because the AFS conducted a fund-raising event that will support the students of Lasiwwai Learning Institute,” Jayvee Justalero, Cineatenista ’21 Event coordinator shared.

The AFS will call for a donation drive to assist the pupils of Lasiwwai Learning Institute from a T'boli community in Barangay Klubi, Lake Sebu, South Cotabato. The club aims to raise funds to support the studies of these pupils and purchase learning materials for their school. For every 3,000 PHP that the club will raise, they would be able to support one pupil for a whole school year, including their school fees and learning materials. Donations are open until February 28.

“We really encourage everyone, regardless of their geographical location, to support the IP schools in the Philippines because education is a right, and it is our responsibility as Filipinos to support our youth especially with their education,” Neil John Sumalinog, AFS Moderator added.

He also mentioned that despite the pandemic that the world faces, it will not stop them from showcasing the talent and artistic flair of their students.

“The Ateneo Senior High School community is looking forward to the Cineatenista every February in line with the Arts and Culture month. Last year, we gathered almost 200 viewers for a one-time screening held on our campus gym. This year, we are a bit nervous as this will be our first to exhibit our films online via Facebook Live. We do hope that the community would still support us, but we are also excited as we open our doors not only to the Ateneo community, but also to Mindanao, and the rest of the country,” Sumalinog ended.

Winners of the Cineatenista ’21 will be announced on Saturday, February 27. The winners of the film will receive digital certificates while the winner for the Audience Choice Award co-presented by Globe, will be determined by the most number of views during the premiere night, and will receive a 2,000 peso cash prize courtesy from our co-presenter.
