"Rak of Aegis" is a famous musical which debuted in 2014 and ran for seven seasons. It follows the story of Aileen (played by Aicelle Santos), a young girl who dreams of making it big in Youtube. She lives in a fictional setting named "Barangay Venizia" which has been submerged in floodwaters for two months.
Moreover, joining the cast is Pepe Herrera who portrays "Tolits", Poppert Bernadas as "Kenny", Robert Seña as "Kiel", Isay Alvarez- Seña as "Mary Jane", Jimi Marquez as "Jewel", Gie Onida as "Fernan", and Joann Co as "Mercy." The Rak of Aegis squad also includes Rafael Sudayan, Teetin Villanueva, John Moran, Marynor Madamesila, Matel Patayon and Lemuel Silvestre.
According to a press release from PETA, the Rak of Aegis musical streaming is a testament to the resilience of those in Villa Venezia not only in the play, but also in the Filipinos trying to navigate through the COVID-19 pandemic, and in the artists who have strived to survive and thrive despite the crisis currently faced by the local theater industry.
In a time where things gets even more unprecedented, let us not forget to support our local artists. While it is true that going back to watch live musicals seems impossible for now, let us take this time to appreciate their craft and help them survive.
