"Naraniag A Bulan” Hauls Major Awards at REALIFILM ‘21; Mike Cabarles claims Best Director Title

It was a bountiful harvest.

Mike Cabarles and his outstanding film “Naraniag A Bulan” of Peliculanihan reigned supreme in the recently concluded Silip@Lente’s REALIFILM 2021 of Adamson University after reaping the Best Film, Best Director, Best Cinematography, and Best Musical Scoring in a virtual awards night last March 15.

Out of the 15 participating films, “Narianag A Bulan," a story of a woman who yearns and struggles to let go after the disappearance of her husband prompting her to create the illusion of her spouse’s death, secured most of the major recognitions including the People’s Choice award.

“Winning is just a bonus for me and my team. I just want to put the film out there so a lot of Filipinos can watch. I am also very honored because I was able to showcase the place where I grew up with, its beauty, people and culture,” Cabarles shared.

"This film is a product of all the hardships and efforts of our production team just to pull things off so this award is a celebration and recognition of the talents of young Filipino filmmakers,” Cabarles added.

He also mentioned that he doesn't want to solely present a problem to the audience, but instead empower them especially in these trying times where a lot of people are experiencing isolation, loneliness, and suffering.

“I want my audience to feel strong and empowered after watching the film. I want them to fight everyday. I dedicate this film to all the Filipinos struggling during these trying times and to the Philippines slowly dying from the hands of a dogmatic and fascist man. I dedicate this film to all women suffering from patriarchy,” Cabarles junctured.

Meanwhile, Silip@Lente-AdU Vice President Jerjhen Mica Salazar extended her heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has supported REALIFILM 2021 from the Webinarserye up to the awards night.

“This would not be possible without you, klasmeyts! And to all of the participants, thank you for sharing your exceptional masterpiece to us. We would also like to thank our partner organizations, Benildean Film Works, CIIT-24 Frames, and Cardinal Film Society as well as to our sponsor, Big Boss Cement. It was an honor and pleasure working with all of you in our 2021 film festival and we look forward to seeing you at our future events,” Salazar said.
