ANG TOTE BAG NI LOLO BERT : A short film goes a long way

Updated: Sep 7, 2020

Coming from this year's Cinemalaya16, the team behind the short film "Ang Gasgas na Plaka ni Lolo Bert" is going beyond the screen with its tote bag for a cause. Part of the proceeds will be donated to Save San Roque Alliance - a broad alliance advocating for the decent and pro-housing rights of Sitio San Roque, an urban poor community embattled in development aggression.

One of the 10 Cinemalaya Short Films in the competition this year, the story revolves around a closeted gay man in his 60s who has been living with HIV for 10 years. His monotonous life takes a sudden turn when he receives an old vinyl record from his dead ex-lover.

Cheska Marfori and Janina Gacosta, directors of the short film "Ang Gasgas na Plaka ni Lolo Robert" believe that as a storyteller, it is our responsibility to push narratives about people whose voices are suppressed by society. It is important to challenge these thoughts, condemn hate, and transform them into love and acceptance. "
